But over the years, bits of the Constitution have been bent or ignored to chip away at that freedom and restore oppression. They're malevolent when they need to be for a strategic reason. When something threatens the international banking cartel, they make things happen in the country in question to stop that threat. These are big picture guys, and they do magnificently wicked things all the time to entire populations to serve their interests. The economy in Hong Kong is not being run by the chinese, and thus, neither is the entire chinese economy. You're right to an extent though. They always have a reason for what they do, it's just that sometimes the larger set of goals trumps continued profit in a given area. With regard to the comment above your last one, I understand your yearning for a simpler time when jeffesonian principles could be implemented. Unfortunately, now, if you get rid of the "government" there is still something huge, organized, private, that nobody elected or can vote out of office that will govern you.
