When the state senate is in session her official duty station is Juneau, so if she had to travel to Anchorage or anywhere else she would get per diem. It only makes sense she would stay in her own home when working 35 miles from it. More succinctly, people vote for people they like. Clinton was likable. Kerry and Gore were not as likable (at least superficially) as W. While Republicans have done all they can to try to paint Obama as elitist, he comes off as a LOT more likable than McCain (who seemed like the epitome of a grumpy old man in the first debate). This all sounds very superficial, but frankly *many* people vote on superficialities.
