US politics is indeed a contrast to countries like England, Sweden, Australia. Over here most top politicians sound like technocrats. The current Australian prime minister talks like an academic or a diplomat at the UN, he's not dumbing things down so people with 70-80 IQ can understand it. The discourse politicians use greatly also influences how the general population understands issues. The way George W Bush and Sarah Palin talk (Jingoism, 'folsky' talk used to sidestep answers, not addressing questions, rhetoric) you'd think they are running for leadership of the local chapter of the NRA or their school board, not the leadership of a country. Being someone who creates intangibles, having your stuff distributed is a horrible feeling. However being an @ss is not the way to go around about it. As many will find, offering your product openly to what people want to pay will give you the biggest reward. Like the record industry, pay what you want, you will make more money. Software needs to head in this direction. I will say i use to pirate every thing that isn't physical. But i've found that almost everything that is free is usually better than the retail product, esp software for any platform. Music is starting to head this way with the artist receiving a measly 15% even with online records (eat bananas Apple, they are taking in 30% of the price of an album, leaving the artist with almost nothing, and now they are crying over a few cents? Just shut down already, no one needs you). I find all my music is available free from Ruckus. Movies are quite terrible, i find only 3-4 indie flicks i like every year, the rest is garbage. Games don't really need such insane protection. If people want find it convenient to buy it via download, they will go there if the price is reasonable. It's really taking forever for this to take "steam." I don't really play games anymore, but whats up when you can't find a game in stock at the store on release day? That's just retarded, it just drives people to pirate because they can't even buy it. The industry has been too greedy for too long and they will pay for it, kicking and screaming like the MPAA if they have to.
