It is an unfortunate fact that ideology trumps reality far too often on both sides of the aisle. The truth of the matter is that the very nature of man's tribal nature bumps up very hard against the necessary intellectualism it requires to be a functional part of a highly-evolved societal system. The reality of the politics is that aside from extremism, simply lumping people into a two-ended spectrum simply doesn't work, there are just too many nuances of belief and thought. I, for example, fit nowhere within the traditional American belief structure, the best I could do is say that I fit somewhere in between anarchist and libertarian, and that on social issues I tend to swing hard left, which definitely leaves a long way from nowhere in terms of Republican and Democrat.
