The thing is, it's not just Ledger's skill (which was great, to be sure) that brands it forever as his... it's his style. There are several actors of comparable skill, but now we associate Ledger's mannerisms and style with the role. How could we swallow someone else make us forget his portrayal long enough to re-define it? Daniel Day Lewis (who is amazing) would be fantastic but, no matter what, fans will be disappointed because he's not Ledger... including me.

I'm actually a bit of a fan of the, erm, "sharp" style. I just hate having to dress up all fancy when you go to a 'fine arts' (as in an orchestral performance, not a Metallica concert) performance. The lights are dimmed and you're supposed to look at the stage anyway, not me!
